About Daying, the Capital of Furs
Daying Town of Zaoqiang County, Hebei Province is sited
in Southeast of Hebei Province, is one of the three biggest
towns of Hengshui City. It has 88 villages, a population
of 6,5000, total area of 136 square meter, farm land of
140,000 mu. The total output value of agricultural industry
in 2001 is 1.32billion Chinese yuan, local government financial
income is 23million Chinese yuan. Daying has long been known
for its fur processing, named Capital City of Furs in China.
Fur Plaza of Daying is named Top Ten Specialized Marketplace
by Hebei Provincial Government while Daying fur industry
is deemed Spark Key Enterprise by Hebei Provincial Government. |
Leading Industry of Daying:
Fur processing is the traditional industry of China Daying.
Daying Town now has 62 villages specially engaged in processing
furs, 9170 enterprises and shops, 562 private processing
unit with an annual output of 500,000 RMB, 63 of them with
an annual output value of over 1million RMB, 12 companies
with an annual output value of over 10million RMB.
Major products include raw skin, tanned fur, semi-products,
fur garments, sheep sheared furs, fur handicrafts total
seven series over 2000 specifications.

the annual output of fur plates: 1.5 million pcs;
the annual output of fur collar, trimming and other accessories:

History of Daying Fur:
It has more than 3000 years since the tale that the prime
minister in Shang Dynasty, Bigan, created the process of
fur and leather. According to the legend, Bigan once worked
as official in Daying area and he first found the way to
process furs and leathers during his stay in Daying. Then
he left to become prime minister of Shang Dynasty. People
here build a temple named Bigan Temple in memory of him.
In Ming Dynasty, Daying fur and leather came into Europe
upper class after Zhenghe sailed across the Atlantic. At
that time, Daying fur became well-known for "Being
soft, suitable, fashionable".
In Qing Dynasty, the travelling merchants from more than
10 countries such as Russia, Japan, England, the Netherlands
set up warehouse in Daying. To the 1860's, Daying fur and
leather were sold well abroad as products exempt from examinations
and taxes. Since China's Reform and Open especially the
recent years, the holding of Daying Fur Trade Fair, further
enhanced the fame of Daying in China as well as the world.
Daying now has become the center of fur industry in North
China, with over 14,000 process enterprises and places for
stall in Daying and its 5 neighboring cities or counties
over 300 villages. The people engaged in fur processing
and sales are about 150,000 and the sales volume reaches
1.8 billion Chinese yuan. Daying fur and leather products
are exported to Russia, European countries, the USA, Japan,
Southeast Asian countries and Korea.
Environment Protection:
Major pollution to the environment caused by fur processing
comes from the tanning and dying of fur and leathers. To
solve this problem, local government has set up a Fur Industry
Park occupies an area of 1300 mu. Daying People¡¯s Government
plans to construct a sewage treatment plant to solve the
pollution of the fur process problem.
Also Daying will invest 38.10 million RMB to set up within
the Fur Industry Park a comprehensive exhibition hall including
Fur Information Building, Fur Quality Inspection Center
and Multi-functional Fur Trading Hall. It will occupy an
area of 100 mu, the construction area will be 43,000 square
meter.
The construction of above two projects will further promote
the development of fur industry in Daying.
